White, tooth-colored fillings, or composite, offer a conservative and beautiful restoration to fix a small cavity, old filling or broken tooth. Where old silver mercury fillings required physical undercuts to be placed in the tooth (causing weakening of the tooth), composite fillings are actually bonded to the tooth, meaning we only remove the diseased part of the tooth.
Limitations of white fillings include very large cavities, if the tooth has fractures or cracks, or if there are heavy chewing forces placed on the tooth. In this case a crown or onlay may be recommended.
